How To Play Spend Bill Gatesβ Money
At the top of the game you will see a big green counter. That is how much money you have left. It starts at Bill Gatesβ full net worth and goes down every time you buy something.
Below the counter is a shop full of stuff. The cheapest things are at the top and the most ridiculous things are at the bottom. Every item has three controls:
- Buy adds one of that item to your cart.
- Sell takes one away and gives you the money back.
- The number box lets you type how many you want. Type 500 and you get 500 at once.
You can never spend more than you have. If you try, the item card gives a little shake and the game buys as many as you can afford instead.
Scroll down, pick things you like and keep an eye on the counter. Once you buy something, a receipt appears at the bottom of the game. It lists every item, how many you bought and the total. When you are happy with your haul, use the share buttons on the receipt to show your friends.
What Your Score Means
Your score is simply how much you spent. There is no right answer, but here is a fun way to think about it:
- Under $1 million: you bought a house and a sports car and still barely scratched the surface.
- $1 million to $1 billion: jets, yachts and mansions. You are living large, yet most of the fortune is untouched.
- $1 billion to $50 billion: skyscrapers and pro sports teams. Now the counter is really moving.
- Over $100 billion: you are close to emptying the whole account. It takes real effort to get this far.
Your biggest shopping spree is saved as your personal best.
Tips To Improve
- Start at the bottom. Big items move the counter far faster than anything else. Grab the giant stuff first, then fill the gaps with smaller things.
- Use the number box. Typing a big number is much faster than tapping Buy over and over.
- Finish with small change. When you have only a few dollars left, rubber ducks and ice cream cones help you get all the way to zero.
Where the Net Worth Number Comes From
The starting amount of $117.8 billion is Bill Gatesβ estimated net worth on October 18, 2026, taken from the Forbes Real-Time Billionaires list. Forbes updates its estimate as share prices change, so the real number goes up and down a little every day.
Gates co-founded Microsoft in 1975, which is where his fortune began. These days he spends much of his time on the Gates Foundation, and he has said he plans to give most of his money away. Forbes reports that he has already given more than $60 billion to the foundation. So in real life, a lot of this money is headed to charity instead of hot tubs and monster trucks.
